I shouldn\u2019t be telling you this but when I sat down to write about this topic\u2014a topic that I\u2019m passionate about and that I think is really important, I got stuck.<\/p>\n

I sat at the computer and watched the cursor blink.<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s the problem.\u00a0 Unless you\u2019re burning through your to do list on autopilot, you\u2019re going to have moments every day when you ask yourself, \u201cWhat am I doing?\u201d\u00a0 And my answer is usually, \u201cNothing.\u201d\u00a0 It\u2019s not because I\u2019m bored or because I\u2019m independently wealthy and can do whatever I want all day.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s because I don\u2019t really DO anything.\u00a0 I sit at my desk all day and I answer emails, but never clear out my inbox.\u00a0 I work on my laptop and fail to even notice the time of day.\u00a0 Most of my work is cyclical\u2014I can get a job done, but I\u2019ll just have to do it again tomorrow or next week.<\/p>\n

When I\u2019m home I clean the house\u2014which just gets dirty again tomorrow, and I re-organize stuff and make the same 4-5 dinners, but there\u2019s no real satisfaction in getting a job done because they\u2019re all on repeat.<\/p>\n

You and I are living in a world where so many of our material needs are met, and where we do jobs that are stationary or repetitive and rarely collaborative.\u00a0 At one office I was told that it was against company culture to speak to one another because chit-chat makes you unproductive (I didn\u2019t last long.)<\/p>\n

As spiritual beings we\u2019re constantly seeking for connection, so when faced with a day of repeated task we just feel stuck.<\/p>\n

We need to feed that spiritual hunger.\u00a0 It\u2019s the only way to unstick ourselves.\u00a0 And, thankfully, it\u2019s much easier than joining a monestary and cheaper than taking a trip around the world.<\/p>\n

You get unstuck by doing things.<\/u>\u00a0 “Wow!\u00a0 How profound!\u00a0 Thanks, Trish\u2014that really cleared it up for me.”<\/p>\n

Bear with me here because it\u2019s a tiny bit more complicated but it\u2019s also that easy.<\/p>\n

Step 1:\u00a0 When you\u2019re feeling stuck, make something.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

The fastest way to feed the spiritual hunger given to each of us by our creator is to become the creator.\u00a0 Bringing something physically to life that didn\u2019t exist moments before is extremely satisfying to our souls.<\/p>\n

Martha Beck said something like, \u201cIf you want to fix your mood make something, make something, make something.\u00a0 The moment you take on the role of creator you\u2019re not a victim you\u2019re energy.\u201d<\/p>\n

Step 2:\u00a0 Do something that lets you see it getting done.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Yep, I is a wordsmith!\u00a0 What I\u2019m saying is that we need to eliminate some of the tasks on our to-do list that are never going to be done and replace them with tasks that show progress and change.<\/p>\n

Hannah Hunt in an interview said, \u201cWe do need to be doing things.\u00a0 Maybe you don\u2019t think you\u2019re a gardener, but if you want to see yourself getting things done, then maybe that\u2019s what you need to be doing.\u201d<\/p>\n

I\u2019m not a gardener, but I am a home decorator.\u00a0 The only home I decorate is mine, but it\u2019s so satisfying to pick a room, craft a plan, and work to transform it.\u00a0 There\u2019s tremendous creative fuel in a room transformation.<\/p>\n

The trick is to do tasks where you can visually see a change.\u00a0 I don\u2019t get the kind of jolt out of creating a spreadsheet that I do out of creating a wreath because I can\u2019t see the physical manifestation of the numbers from the sheet.\u00a0 Make sure that whatever you choose, you can see the newness of it in the physical world.<\/p>\n

Step 3:\u00a0 Collaborate<\/strong><\/p>\n

If you\u2019re already in the habit of spending time creating new things, and you already have a hobby or business where you can see yourself getting things done but you\u2019re still stuck it\u2019s because you need new energy.<\/p>\n

It isn\u2019t good to be alone!\u00a0 Whether you work from home, you\u2019re a stay at home mom, or you\u2019re unfortunate enough to work in an office with a no-talking policy, you need interaction to get unstuck.<\/p>\n

We are social beings that share energy back and forth whenever we collaborate, building more energy.\u00a0 It\u2019s like feeding the spiritual hunger with pure vitamins!<\/p>\n

The quick fix, of course, is to get out and give service to someone.\u00a0 It will immediately unstick you.<\/p>\n

The lasting fix is to create collaboration networks.\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0I do it every year with the 12 Days of Christmas Deck the Home Blog Hop.\u00a0 Seeing other bloggers great ideas and swapping ideas through the Facebook Group improve the quality of my projects and give me lots of creative juice.<\/p>\n

I also have a group of women that meet monthly to discuss the progress we\u2019re making on our goals.\u00a0 We support each other, give ideas and generally have a great time.\u00a0 It gives me new energy to spend on my goals and keeps me accountable and moving forward.<\/p>\n

I have lots of other collaboration networks, but you get the idea.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s almost impossible to talk yourself out of being stuck.\u00a0 It\u2019s totally impossible to get unstuck by staring at a blank screen and willing yourself to write something brilliant.\u00a0 When you feel stuck, it\u2019s time to make something.\u00a0 Once you\u2019ve done that, you can add energy to your soul by firing on all cylinders through hobbies and collaboration networks.<\/p>\n
