Decorating your Christmas Tree in Layers<\/h1>\n

Christmas trees invite the beauty of nature into our homes.\u00a0 Christmas trees are a tradition grounded in the origins of the holiday, centered around Christ who is the root of Christmas.\u00a0 Martin Luther was inspired to add candles to his Christmas tree during a twilight walk through the woods where he mused that he could see God’s light shining through the tree branches. There is symbolism throughout:\u00a0 green for the ever-green nature of Christ, candy canes for the shepherd’s canes, stars for the star of Bethlehem.\u00a0 It’s natural that the Christmas tree is central to our celebration of Christmas.<\/p>\n

Tree design has evolved over the years to include modern conveniences we can all embrace.\u00a0 The most compelling trees take advantage of string lights, ornament spinners, wire edged ribbon and ornaments.\u00a0 Many trees today portray a theme, or color scheme.\u00a0 Whatever your decorating choices may be, layering your Christmas tree decorations will give it a designer look.<\/p>\n

Decorating your Christmas Tree in Layers<\/b><\/h3>\n

Layer # 1: Lights:\u00a0<\/strong>For full trees, you will generally need 100 mini-lights per foot of tree.\u00a0 The skinny or pencil tree requires about half that.\u00a0 Always layer a few strands of twinkle lights over the regular lights to add depth and visual interest.<\/p>\n

Layer # 2: Ribbon:\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>Use wire-edged ribbon to create a garland around your tree.\u00a0 Attach with floral wire.<\/p>\n

Layer # 3:\u00a0 Ornaments:\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>Start by hanging ornaments\u00a0inside<\/em> the tree.\u00a0 This, too, adds visual depth to the tree.\u00a0 Then hang the rest of the ornaments on the tree.\u00a0 Remember, every ornament should dangle from the tree freely, and not be hitting a branch or another ornament.<\/p>\n

Layer #4:\u00a0 Bows & Picks:\u00a0<\/strong> Finish by attaching bows made from wire-edged ribbon with floral wire.\u00a0 Use the bows to fill in gaps on the Christmas tree.\u00a0 Add floral picks to some of the branches, attaching them with floral wire.<\/p>\n

Bonus ideas:\u00a0<\/strong> Finish the Christmas tree with a tree skirt, or by wrapping the tree stand in burlap to resemble a root ball.\u00a0 Use ornament spinners to display especially beautiful ornaments. Create ornament vignettes by placing 3-5 ornaments together in a single area as a display.<\/p>\n
